ABS
The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is one of the world's leading ship classification societies and a member of the International Association of Classification Societies Ltd (IACS).
"The mission of ABS is to serve the public interest as well as the needs of our clients by promoting the security of life, property and the natural environment primarily through the development and verification of standards for the design, construction and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities."
ABS will provide services to ensure the structural and mechanical fitness of ships and other marine structures for their intended purpose. It does this through a procedure known as classification.
Classification is a procedure involving:
- The development of standards, known as Rules
- Technical plan review and design analysis
- Surveys during construction
- Source inspection of materials, equipment and machinery
- Acceptance by the Classification Committee
- Subsequent periodic surveys for maintenance of class
- Survey of damage, repairs and modification
ABS also offers certification to specified standards. Whereas classification requires periodic surveys of the classed vessel or offshore unit throughout its life, certification verifies that the item conforms to designated standards at a specified time. Certification can establish compliance with ABS, national, international, industry or other standards.
ABS has maintained a long and close relationship with the US Coast Guard. The development of the Alternative Compliance Program (ACP) expanded the scope of plan review and inspection activities delegated to ABS and eliminated the duplication of tasks performed by both the USCG and ABS.

Bureau Veritas (BV)
Bureau Veritas has designed global processes for certifications that are in line with professional standards and international rules. Upon contacting Bureau Veritas Certification, clients learn about the main steps and processes associated with our certifications, as well as their rights and obligations when applying for management systems certifications. Bureau Veritas Certification makes this independence.>
Certification (2010)
Certification usually includes on-site audits, standardized testing and inspections, and then surveillance audits during the certification period of validity. It may include, where applicable, a design review phase.
Classification (2010)
BV delivers two types of classification services: ship classification and customs classification.
- Ship classification
If you are involved in the maritime industry, classification refers to a range of services performed on a vessel, from its design and construction to its “in-service” status, with the objective to make it operate according to a high level of internationally recognized safety standards. As a classification body, we are strongly committed to the development and implementation of maritime technical standards to protect life, property and the environment.
- Customs classification
If you are involved in your country’s customs operations, or if you are an operator in international trade, you probably know that members of the World Customs Organization use the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (commonly referred to as the HS). The HS allows governments to simplify revenue collection and gathering of trade statistics according to classification positions.
Customs Classification is part of the Pre-Shipment Inspection services, BV deliver to Governments.

Det Norske Veritas (DNV)
Det Norske Veritas (DNV) is a global provider of services for managing risk. An independent foundation with the objective of safeguarding life, property and the environment, DNV comprises 300 offices in 100 countries, with about 9,000 employees.
In the last decade or so, product compliance issues have gone through a tremendous change. Not long ago, manufacturers had to go through a cumbersome process of getting their product approved for every given country they wanted access to. The processes were different and so were the technical requirements.
>Although not yet perfect, thanks to the pressure from the industry on global trade and efforts within international standardization, manufacturers can now reduce their costs by testing and certifying their product once for a relatively large market and get acceptance in many countries. A key player for you can be DNV.

Kobelt's ISO 9001 Certification
Kobelt Manufacturing believes that the disciplines of Quality,
Health and Safety, and Environmental management are an integral part of our mission in providing
the best controls, steering and disc brakes.
Our quality policy calls for continuous improvement in Quality Management activities.
ISO Certification is an example of backing our ideals with action.
Although we strongly believe in quality, we also believe in cost saving because everybody
wants to get the best value too. We manage quality through efficient methods.
Fortunately, high quality will save money in production and for the customer.
With high quality, the total cost of owning a product is reduced.
You don't need to re-purchase the item again and again.
Cheap products (poorly made, mediocre design, or poor materials) will cost more eventually, and
they lack the overall enjoyment from using a high quality product. The smart money seeks quality investments.

Registro Italiano Navale (RINA)
Registro Italiano Navale
A certifying authority for more than one hundred years, RINA knows how to keep up-to-date with trends in global shipping.
Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) is one of the oldest societies in the world for the classification of merchant ships.
RINA was established in 1861 for this very purpose and even today, this continues to be its "raison
d'etre".
RINA and Ships
Over the years, RINA has undergone several re-organisations and changes have been made to its duties, yet it has never lost its role as attentive technical partner and highly respected within the international maritime community.
RINA Certifies More Than Ships
The experience gained from over one hundred years of activity in the shipping field has led to a natural and progressive widening and diversification to encompass other industrial sectors thus putting to good use its know-how of great technical merit and the professional skill of its staff.
RINA as a Certifying Body
In this context, RINA also acts as independent third party or certifying body to confirm compliance of the plants with national and international rules as well as with contractual specifications.
This qualification is well suited to those who, like RINA, offer sound guarantees of seriousness, reliability and independence and affirm as fundamental principles of their role, inherited from the shipping sector, the protection of the safety of people and things and of the environment.
